Midlands Middle College is an educational program offered as a choice for high school juniors and seniors to complete high school graduation requirements and earn transferable college credit.
Where is Midlands Middle College located?
MMC is located on the Airport Campus of Midlands Tech. Location on a college campus makes the Middle College unique because students reap the benefit of enrolling in college courses and using the college science lab and library.

Who attends Midlands Middle College?
Midlands Middle College serves high school students, ages 16-19, in eight school districts in Lexington, Richland, and Fairfield Counties. Students apply for admission and, if selected, attend classes at MMC but remain enrolled in their home high schools. All attendance, grades, and other student records compiled at MMC are reported to the student’s home high school and become a part of the student’s permanent high school record. Students have opportunity to participate in graduation ceremonies sponsored by their home high schools and are awarded diplomas by their home high school.
What is the admissions process for Midlands Middle College?
In order to be considered for admission to MMC, an interested high school junior or senior needs to complete the MMC application. The application requires information from the student’s parent/guardian and the student’s high school guidance counselor. Junior and senior applicants need to have earned at least 12 credits primarily in core classes that are required for a standard high school diploma. The application includes a list of required prerequisite courses. Applications are screened by MMC staff, and students and parents are interviewed as part of the screening process.
What courses are taught at Midlands Middle College?
The MMC program offers classes in English, math, science and social studies. Students are registered in classes needed to meet their graduation requirements. The MMC curriculum meets all SC Department of Education standards and is designed to provide academic rigor to each student.
Who teaches the classes at Midlands Middle College?
MMC teachers are experienced, certified and highly-qualified teachers. All MMC staff are personnel of Lexington School District One and must meet the same employment qualifications as all Lexington School District One certified and classified employees.
What are the attendance, grading procedures, etc., at Midlands Middle College?
Fundamental policies and procedures that apply to high school students throughout the state apply also to MMC students. MMC students are bound by South Carolina attendance laws, Uniform Grading Policy and curriculum standards. MMC students receive College Prep credit for successfully completed course work.
When and how often do classes meet at Midlands Middle College?
Midlands Middle College classes begin each day at 12:45 and conclude at 5:20. Three ninety-minute classes are taught each day, 5 days per week. Students can earn three credits per semester.
Do students provide their own transportation to Midlands Middle College?
Most students who attend MMC must provide their own transportation to and from school. Fairfield County students are an exception; the Fairfield County Council provides a bus to transport students to and from MMC each day.
How does Midlands Middle College provide for students who receive special services?
Some students who apply to MMC have been receiving special services at their home high schools. Each of these students is identified through the application process and a meeting is scheduled with the student and parent prior to admission to discuss type and frequency of services that the student has received. Once the student is admitted and begins classes at MMC, a meeting is scheduled with parent, student, and the person who has been providing the special services at the student’s home high school. A decision is made and documented as to if, when, and how services will be continued in order for the student’s needs to be met.
Do Midlands Middle College students earn dual credit for classes successfully completed at Midlands Technical College?
Students who enroll in classes at MMC have the opportunity to enroll in classes at Midlands Tech for dual credit. The high school credit that students receive varies from district to district. Before enrolling in a particular Midlands Tech class, parents, student,
MMC guidance counselor and a Midlands Tech representative meet to discuss the type of credit that the student may earn if a particular course is completed successfully.
May Midlands Middle College students participate in social activities at their home high schools?
Midlands Middle College students, while taking academic classes in the MMC program and at Midlands Tech, may maintain a social attachment to their home high schools. Students may want to participate in after-school activities such as attending athletic games, prom, etc. Generally, students have been allowed to do this, but the decision is made by leaders at the students’ home high schools.
What school calendar does Midlands Middle College use?
Midlands Middle College uses the same school calendar as Lexington School District One. This calendar complies with most of the calendars in other districts. It outlines student holidays, Interim and Report Card dates, exam dates and any days designated to be used as makeup days if weather conditions require that schools be closed.
